03 Sep 08 Gisol ripoffs extend to the Caribbean

Filed by sean067 in Complaints and Posts.

I’m located in Barbados, and wish I had found this (and many other sites) before allowing gisol to pressure me into agreeing to a cc charge of over $1,000

I found a great site, domaintools.com, which among other things, allowed me to see that gisol DELETED my domain several days before I called them regarding domain expiry

If they deleted my domain, how can they then tell me that they could put a backorder on it?

The new domain registrant is now emailing me with offers to purchase the domain for $600

I’m going to go to my bank with all of the information I have and get a chargeback

gisol are blatant criminals and I am reporting them to every agency I can think of

    Hi,

Gisol cannot actually delete any domains. They are only deleted after they have not been paid for and have gone through the grace + redemption + pendingdelete periods. Only the registrar can do that.

When Gisol said they could “backorder” it for you after it had been deleted, they would have been trying to con you again. They would have just re-registered it for $5, and probably charged you a couple of hundred.

Just remember that the “new” registrant could well be Gisol themselves trying to sell it back to you. They are such nice guys.

    Good luck,

    Mike.

Remember if it looks too good to be true, it certainly is with Gisol!

    Mike,

Gisol was the registrar when the domain was deleted on July 28

The new registrar, domainservice.com, was registered as the new registrar on September 3rd.

I’m just trying to generate sufficient evidence to get my bank on my side when I do the chargeback.

It get’s a little complicated where domains and Gisol are concerned. Gisol is not a registrar. They are simply a registrant. When you order your domain through Gisol, they go to a registrar and register the name through them. Where it gets complicated is that they register it in their name, not yours. When you look at domaintools.com, you see Gisol’s name and contact details, because they actually owned it, but that does not make them a registrar.

You can see a list of registrars for .com or .net domains here:
    http://www.verisign.com/information-services/naming-services/com-net-registry/page_002166.html
Gisol is not on that list.

It gets better - gisol is now emailing me saying that they have secured the domain and have it online as a courtesy. I checked and the site is online.

However, they are trying to convince me to continue hosting with them and to ‘resume my lease’ of the domain.

I have no intention of giving them more business, but they will control the domain and can post messages under the domain that will hurt the business. I would not put it past them.

    What do I do now.

How nice of them. They really are nice guys aren’t they?

    (Did someone say NO?)

I would just say goodbye to your domain. Let them keep paying the renewal.

It adds weight to the theory that Gisol own the domains after they have been apparently deleted and “snapped up”. Gisol are the domainers or cybersquatters and try to sell it back to you for rediculous amounts.
