Cancel/block your card ASAP. They may charge you at any time. Once that happens, it can be a long road to get the money back.

The domain that shows Gisol as registrant, I would say bye bye to. The other one; have you tried re-registering it? It may have gone through the grace/redemption/delete process. If you want me to look into it, send me the domain name using my contact form...

yeah, i will definitely be expecting trouble and will be canceling or blocking card. I need to get my assets off there first though before I start rocking the boat!

One of the domains shows gisol as the registrant - the other, the one that recently expired, doesn't even show up in a whois search. I don't know why. Luckily, both domains were really just placeholders for exactly this reason - when i signed up with gisol i wanted the primary domain for the account to be not something i cared about too much, in case this happened. but still annoying - i actually did want to use the names eventually, and my wife's email was on one of them.

VERY IMPORTANT: Cancel any cards that Gisol have, or have had the details of. Also, check your statements.

Once you start complaining, they may charge your card without your authorisation.

Expect a phone call from them, and don't agree to anything or sign anything.

Another question.... Are Gisol listed on the whois for your domain names?

Hi, thanks for the response - well, I guess now I've been burned too, though not as badly (yet) - I managed to let two domains lapse because of (in addition to my own disorganization) their lack of any notification message. I mean, they don't even notify you AFTER expiration, not to mention when expiration is coming up. It's like they don't want you to renew your domain, just so they can hold it hostage or something. Granted, I should have been on the ball, but most of my domains are hosted elsewhere and I always get a 60 and 30 day notice before expiration, so I guess I'm complacent.
Anyway, the problem is, now they won't let me renew, even with some extortionist penalty as I would expect. They just don't respond to my tickets or support requests. And their renewal system has my domains locked.

So I've gone ahead and signed up for a vps account with HostingAmerica.com. Very cheap, which of course makes me worry that they will have the same issues as our friends at Gisol. I couldn't find much info, but what I could find seemed like they might be ok. I'm hoping, but not going to invest too much content yet into that server until I see how it goes.
To answer your questions, I am in US and prefer US host but don't really care - only seems slightly more convenient in case of help requests.

Thanks again,
Ian

Hi Ian,

I moved your comment from my Guestbook due to the fact there were more specific questions in it. Hope you don't mind....

Hosting: Which country are you in or which country/countries would you not mind being hosted in? If you let us know, I or someone else may be able to recommend one.

Spammers: I had no experiences with this problem when I was hosted with them. It has been suggested that they sell email addresses to spammers. As they don't particularly care about their customers, I wouldn't be surprised if they host these types of people. They won't care if you're being blocked if it's because you're sharing a server/ip with spammers.

"ian", if you leave your real email address next time, I'll send you a password so you can leave posts, not just comments. Not a problem if you don't. Just leave a comment below to reply. Thanks for your input!
